LEMMINKÄINEN TO BUILD UNDERGROUND CAVERNS IN ODDA, NORWAY

Lemminkäinen has signed a contract with zinc smelting plant Boliden Odda AS to build two underground caverns. The volume of each cavern used for manufacturing waste is 275.000 m3. In addition, the contract includes building of transport tunnels, sarcophagus for storage of mercury and concrete work.

The two-year contract is valued between 100 and 150 Norwegian krones (approximately between 13 and 20 million euros). Construction starts immediately and employs about 40 people at the most. The project is a good example of Lemminkäinen's expertise in underground construction for industrial purposes.
