Yandex Releases Search for iPad

MOSCOW, Nov. 15, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Yandex (Nasdaq:YNDX), one of Europe's largest internet companies operating Russia's most popular search engine and most visited website, has announced the release of a search app for iPad. With its tablet-optimized, intuitive user interface, the Yandex Search app allows iPad owners to search the internet quickly and easily. The search application helps users effectively carry out their everyday tasks on their iPads, from choosing what to have for dinner to planning a vacation.

People searching on their iPads for the answers to questions, such as 'where to buy a broomstick' or 'what colour to choose for the dining room', do not need to switch between each individual page about broomsticks or wallpaper and search results. The Yandex Search app opens pages as tabs in a browser, allowing users to have as many tabs as they wish and switch between tabs and search results within one screen.

With the Yandex Search app, iPad users can also receive instant answers to direct questions. Those looking for the address of the nearest bookshop, for instance, will be able to see all bookshops in the local area on a map. Or, if someone is wondering what Amsterdam looks like, they will instantly be able to view images of the city right on their iPad screen.

The search app for the iPad is part of Yandex's intent-based search program aimed at developing the search engine's ability to understand its users' search intentions.

The app is localised for iPad users in Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey. It also comes with an English user interface designed for those people in these countries who prefer using their iPads in English.

The beta of the Yandex Search app can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
