Boulder Chiropractor Provides Free Exercise and Instructional Wellness Videos

BOULDER, Colo., Dec. 9, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Boulder chiropractor Dr. Douglas Kennedy has added a video collection to his website. The growing "Video Vault" contains many exercise demonstrations done in his office to show patients how to do certain therapeutic exercises at home. He explains that many of these exercises have been adapted from yoga and Pilates and are specifically designed to help back pain and neck pain patients bolster their core muscles. Dr. Kennedy has also included informational videos about various musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, such as whiplash and lower crossed syndrome, as well as stress-relief techniques such as "tapping."

The Boulder chiropractor says that the videos are designed to empower his patients when they are not in his office. "The exercise videos are particularly useful because they stress the proper form, which is so critical when doing any therapeutic exercise. If you do an exercise the wrong way, not only do you not get the benefit you need from it, but you can actually cause other problems. I show my patients how to do these exercises in the office, but then these videos help them remember the form and the technique when they are doing it at home. A lot of my neck pain and back pain patients have told me how glad they are that we put these videos up on the website for that reason."

Dr. Kennedy has also included informational videos about different injuries and conditions in his Video Vault. He points to five videos about whiplash, explaining that it is one of the most common causes of neck pain. In addition to describing the symptoms and causes of whiplash in great detail, Dr. Kennedy has also posted videos of neck exercises and stretches to address the most common symptoms of the neck injury. In one of these videos, a fellow chiropractic physician from Massachusetts demonstrates neck exercises to relieve headaches.

Dr. Kennedy says he plans to post many more videos in the vault, particularly on wellness and stress relief techniques people can do at home. In one video, he addresses stressed out college students with an at-home technique called "tapping." He demonstrates how tapping various points on the hand, head, face and chest while thinking about an upcoming test can reduce anxiety about the test.

According to Dr. Kennedy, the videos are a valuable resource for people who want to take control of their health and wellness. "I've always thought that showing was more powerful than telling. These videos give people tools they can use right now to feel better and reduce their stress and pain levels, right in their own homes."
