Plextor M5 Pro Xtreme SSD Breaks 100K IOPS Speed Barrier

Plextor's M5 Pro SSD With Xtreme Firmware Sets New Standards for Reliability, Accuracy, and Data Protection With Random Read Speeds of Up to 100K IOPS

FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 10, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Plextor (www.goplextor.com), a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance digital media and storage equipment, announces the release of the new 100K Xtreme firmware update for the M5 Pro Solid State Drive. This update turns an M5 Pro into an M5 Pro Xtreme which delivers a new level of performance.

The Plextor M5 Pro Xtreme version is the first true professional SSD capable of delivering random-read speeds up to 100,000 IOPS with improved maximum random-write speeds of 88,000 IOPS along with an equally impressive 470 MB/S sequential write speed and 540 MB/S sequential read speed.

In a recent review, Hermitage Akihabara of Japan confirmed the 256GB M5 Pro Xtreme's 100K IOPS read capability with 4K QD32 benchmark of over 409.9 MB/s.

The Plextor M5 Pro has already created excitement in the market with significant sales along with accolades and awards from critics while also settling into top position in group tests. Plextor expects further success with the M5 Pro Xtreme version.

The M5 Pro Xtreme retains the features that qualify it as a true professional SSD, including a calculated mean time between failures of 2.4 million hours. This level of reliability has been achieved through stringent quality control with a pre-production testing requirement of 400 drives passing 500 hours of intensive tests with zero errors.

The M5 Pro Xtreme features Plextor's True Protect enterprise-grade dual-stage data debugging feature with 256-bit AES full-drive encryption protection technology. The drive also uses the latest Marvell® 88SS9187 controller modified with exclusive Plextor True Speed technology and Toshiba's new 19 nm Toggle NAND. This combination sets new standards for accuracy, protection of data, reliability, and—Xtreme—speed.

"When we set out to build the M5 Pro, we wanted to redefine professional standards for mean time between failures and data protection, rather than describe our existing levels as being professional. But what we're finding is that a wide range of users from the enterprise market to hardcore gamers love the M5 Pro. Following the success of the drive we thought that we should reward our many users and add to the holiday joy by asking our firmware team to push the M5 Pro's performance even higher. After all being a true professional doesn't mean your performance shouldn't be at the extreme," commented Minnie Lin, Marketing Manager.
