Daktronics Video Display Systems Set to Debut This Hockey Season

BROOKINGS, S.D., Jan. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Daktronics (Nasdaq:DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., has provided new integrated video, scoring and audio systems for hockey venues this season, including a significant upgrade to Nationwide Arena for the Columbus Blue Jackets and one of the largest HD centerhung display configurations at New Tampa Bay Times Forum for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Lightning will be firing up their display on Saturday, January 19th and the Blue Jackets will turn on their display on Monday, January 21st for their first home games of the 2013 season.

Tampa Bay Lightning

"After completing the transformation of the Tampa Bay Times Forum this past season, we recognized the need to hang an appropriate state-of-the-art video board in the arena," said Steve Griggs, Chief Operating Officer of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Storm and Tampa Bay Times Forum. "Like many other new elements in the Times Forum, the new board will be recognized nationally for its innovation, quality and fan-friendliness. It promises to be among the best in North America and allows us to further enhance the in-arena presentation for all of our events."

The new suspended video display system will include four large video displays using the latest Daktronics video technology in a rectangular configuration. The two largest displays will measure approximately 28 feet high by 50 feet wide. With 1296 lines of resolution, the largest two displays will present live and recorded video in true high definition, with the capability to show multiple zones of content, creating a digital canvas on which to present video, animation, graphics, scores and statistics in unlimited layouts.

"This project is all about the fans and enhancing the in-game experience," said Derek Dawley, Blue Jackets Director of Game Operations/Event Presentation. "Upgrading to HD and a larger screen will get fans attending the game more closely connected to the action. With our increased capabilities on the technical side, we can deliver more replay angles and significantly more statistical information than ever before."

The most significant feature of the upcoming installation will be a massive HD video centerhung display showcasing the latest in LED technology on seven different screens including 4 main HD screens each measuring approximately 16 feet high by 25 feet wide. The Daktronics technology also boasts industry-leading contrast ratios and super wide viewing angles in 144 quadrillion colors. The main screens will present imagery tightly spaced together on 6mm (.24") center-to-center line spacing. With 720 lines of resolution, the displays will present live and recorded video in true high-definition, with the capability to show multiple zones of content, creating a digital canvas on which to present video, animation, graphics, scores and statistics in unlimited layouts.

A custom Daktronics sound system will be integrated with the video and scoring system. The system will provide full-range sound reproduction with clear and intelligible speech while delivering pounding bass energy, smooth mid and high range frequencies and high impact entertainment.
