Leading Surgeons Highlight Nitinol Compression Anastomosis at the 130th German Congress for Surgery (DGCH)

Regional Experience Substantiates Positive Global Data for novoGI(TM) ColonRing

ATLANTA, May 13, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- novoGI Inc. today announced the success of a scientific symposium on novoGI's nitinol compression anastomosis in Munich at the 130th Kongress der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Chirurgie (DGCH), The German Congress for Surgery. DGCH is the largest German surgical meeting, with over 8000 participants mainly from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria and other regions.

At DGCH, the Satellite Symposium Die Anastomose bei der Tiefen Anterioren Resektion mit dem ColonRing [Anastomoses in Low Anterior Resection with ColonRing] included podium presentations by leading surgeons. The session focused on clinical experience in surgical practice as well as published data covering successful outcomes for novoGI™ ColonRing in terms of low leak rates of and healing processes for low anterior resection (LAR) procedures.

Clinical presentations included:

  • Common Types of Anastomosis on the Colon and the ColonRing as a New Alternative (ID: 2102) presented by Prof Paul-Antoine Lehur, MD (CHU de Nantes, Nantes, France).
  • Kompressionsanastomose mit ColonRing Was Sagen die Daten? [Compression Anastomosis with ColonRing What Does the Data Say?] (ID 2103) presented by Prof Oliver Schwandner, MD (KH by Barmherzige Brüder, Regensburg, Germany).
  • Low Anterior Resection Anastomosis (LARA) - Personal Experience and Management of Complications (ID 2104) presented by Prof Friedrich Herbst, MD, FRCS, (KH Barmherzige Brüder, Vienna, Austria) who has performed over 200 compression anastomosis procedures.

The presentations were followed by panel discussion moderated by Asad Kutup, MD on behalf of Prof Jakob R. Izbicki, FACS, FRCS, Ed. Hon. (University of Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany).

"The depth of presentations and level of interest in compression anastomosis with the novoGI™ ColonRing device at scientific meetings worldwide in recent weeks - at the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) Annual Meeting in the USA, DGCH in Germany, and major congresses in France - underscore the importance and growing global acceptance of our clinically proven technology for improving patient care," noted Gavriel D. Meron, novoGI President and Chief Executive Officer. "The increased involvement of leading surgeons worldwide demonstrated at the 2nd Annual Meeting of the World Congress of Compression Anastomosis (WCCA) held recently in Phoenix, Arizona is continuing to drive educational and research activities in this field."
