IPC The Hospitalist Company Adds Post-Acute Practice in Alabama

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., July 29, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq:IPCM), a leading national hospitalist physician group, announced today that it is expanding in Alabama with the acquisition of Baldwin Physician Services, Inc. (BPS), a post-acute hospitalist practice headquartered in Mobile.

R. Jeffrey Taylor, President and Chief Operating Officer of IPC, stated, "IPC entered Alabama in 2011 by contracting with an acute care hospital in Mobile. Since that time, IPC has organically expanded to three hospitals in this market. The acquisition of BPS is a natural next step for us to further improve the quality of patient care across the care continuum. We already have a solid and established working relationship with the BPS team, and we look forward to their participation in the IPC family of practices."

BPS owners Wendell Erdman, M.D. and William Admire, Jr., D.O. will continue to lead the practice under IPC. "The IPC-BPS relationship is already well established, and we are pleased to come together under the IPC banner," noted Dr. Erdman.  "Acute and post-acute hospitalists working closely together to ensure a smooth transition of patient care helps to reduce incidence of re-hospitalization, while improving the overall experience for patients and their families."

The BPS acquisition represents approximately 13,000 encounters on an annualized basis.
