Matrix Medical Network Showcases Value of Prospective Health Assessments at AHIP Conference

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 19, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Matrix Medical Network, the national leader in providing prospective health assessment services for Medicare Advantage (MA) plan members, will present a special information session on improving member care with health assessments at America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) Medicare Conference. Matrix is a Select Partner Program Sponsor of the AHIP Medicare Conference, which runs from Sept. 22 – 24, in Washington, D.C.

The session, Improving Member Care Starts with the Health Assessment, will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Speakers Rebecca Welling, manager of coding compliance at Providence Health Plans, and Deborah Benjamin, BSN, RN, director of quality at Matrix Medical Network, will explain how using in-home health assessments to identify member health conditions can improve clinical care.

"This session will highlight the successful collaboration between Providence Health Plans and Matrix that helped identify and manage the care needs of at-risk members within a 40,000 Medicare Advantage plan member population," said Kim Rosengren, vice president of marketing at Matrix. "Attendees will hear about how Matrix Nurse Practitioners use 'eyes on' training to recognize critical health conditions and alert Providence case managers to help members get the ongoing care they need. Our Nurse Practitioners also offer immediate information and education to members about their specific conditions, medications, diet, exercise, and other lifestyle considerations important for self-care management."

Additionally, Matrix is sponsoring a pre-conference workshop on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 2 – 4 p.m., about Best Practices in Improving HEDIS and Star Scores, which will be moderated by Ted Kyi, president of Ascender Software, a Matrix Medical Network company. Featured panelists include Mital Panara from the rapidly growing Freedom Health / Optimum Healthcare family and Laura Breisch and Catherine Flanagan, RN, from Health First Health Plans. "This session will highlight key steps and strategies used by health plans with 4+ Stars to meet CMS measurements," said Rosengren.

Matrix is the industry's pioneer in using a national network of highly-trained, employed NPs to conduct in-person 60-minute-plus prospective assessments in MA members' homes and nursing facilities. Matrix is the largest provider of in-home assessments and is on track to positively impact the lives of more than 335,000 Medicare Advantage members in 2013.
