Photo Release -- Former President of Legal Aid Group Joins R. Rex Parris Law Firm

LANCASTER, Calif., Oct. 1, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Patricia Oliver recently joined the R. Rex Parris law firm after serving two years as the President of Christian Legal Aid of Los Angeles ("CLA-LA"). Her broad range of legal experience has been spent on high stakes class action litigation on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants. She has represented and assisted in representing clients in civil litigation matters pending in state and federal courts across the country.

Ms. Oliver specializes in class action litigation including wage and hour actions, consumer class actions, and antitrust litigation. Prior to joining R. Rex Parris, Patricia represented satellite technicians in California who alleged that DirecTV, Inc. failed to provide duty-free meal periods, failed to reimburse them for the costs of tools needed for their job, and failed to pay wages for all hours worked. Ms. Oliver helped successfully settle the case for $4.4 million. She helped recover $1.4 million in attorney fees in a highly contested class action lawsuit on behalf of employees against a private security company and assisted in managing a nationwide team that successfully litigated trademark infringement actions against retailers selling counterfeit products in several states.

Ms. Oliver represented a client in a complex Multi-District Litigation antitrust action where plaintiffs alleged $35 billion in trebled damages. After extensive discovery, the federal district court granted summary judgment in favor of Ms. Oliver's client and enjoined a parallel action bringing the same claims in state court. The Eleventh Circuit unanimously affirmed summary judgment in favor of her client. Patricia also has experience in general business litigation, real estate litigation, environmental litigation, and assisting clients with government investigations.

At CLA-LA, Ms. Oliver developed innovative ways to increase access to justice for our most vulnerable citizens including the elderly, disabled veterans, foster children, political refugees, and homeless families.

"Patricia Oliver is a veteran litigator with deep expertise in a number of areas," said attorney R. Rex Parris, founder of the firm. "Adding Patricia to the team allows us to more fully serve the litigation needs of our clients. As a law firm that protects the rights of injured people and aggrieved employees, we are in a continuous expansion mode to address all legal needs of our clients."

Ms. Oliver was admitted to the California State Bar in 1997 after receiving her Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law in 1997, where she was elected to The Order of the Coif. She received American Jurisprudence Awards in Contracts, Constitutional Law, and Business Associations, and a Corpus Juris Secundum Award in Contracts. Ms. Oliver received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from University of California, Los Angeles, graduating magna cum laude and with College Honors.

In 2007, Patricia was selected as a Southern California "Rising Star" in Super Lawyers. In 2010, 2011, and 2012, she was chosen as a Southern California Super Lawyer. Ms. Oliver is passionate about Pro Bono Legal Services. She is co-founder of Christian Legal Aid of Los Angeles, which operates free legal aid clinics in conjunction with HomeBoy Industries, Long Beach Rescue Mission, Dream Center, and World Impact. During her time serving at CLA-LA, the organization increased the quality and quantity of client services. CLA-LA ultimately grew by 700% in two years, offering clinics all across Los Angeles County. Patricia also represented The Nature Conservancy in supporting conservation measures adopted by the State of California as part of the CALFED Bay Delta Program and in a condemnation action involving scarce environmental resources.
