JBS Carriers Receives U.S. EPA 2013 SmartWay Excellence Award

Award Recipients are Top Program Performers and Leaders in Freight Supply Chain Efficiency

GREELEY, Colo., Oct. 24, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- JBS Carriers was recently honored with a second consecutive SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its industry leadership in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. JBS Carriers, the transportation arm of JBS USA, a leading producer of beef, pork, poultry and lamb products, has made a commitment to improve the efficiency of its fleet and reduce its impact on the environment through fuel-saving, environmentally-friendly technologies, such as Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), trailer skirts, trailer tails and high-performance tires.

"We're very proud to once again be recognized by our partners at the EPA for our efforts to effectively manage our environmental footprint," said JBS Carriers president Rodrigo Horvath. "Our partnership with SmartWay is but one example of how JBS Carriers, and the entire JBS family of companies, is working hard every day to improve our operations, minimize our environmental impact and preserve our precious natural resources for future generations to enjoy."

JBS Carriers was one of 55 companies – and one of only four refrigerated carriers – to receive this distinction, out of SmartWay's 3,000-plus partners.  Award recipients are recognized for being high-performing partners that are leading the business community to a clean, efficient and more sustainable future for the transport of goods. The Excellence Awardees were honored at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals annual conference Oct. 22 in Denver.

"EPA is pleased to recognize the 2013 SmartWay Excellence Award recipients.  I commend JBS Carriers for its superior environmental performance and leadership in advancing freight sector efficiency," said Gina McCarthy, EPA Administrator.  "Their commitment is helping lead the freight industry to a more sustainable future."
