Next Winner of The Voice? HubShout Utilizes Social Media to Make Bold Prediction

HubShout's SMAP score successfully predicted winners of previous seasons of The Voice

Falls Church, VA, Nov. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HubShout, a leading US SEO reseller and online marketing firm specializing in software and services for small businesses, has developed a SMAP (Social Media Average Points) Score to determine the next winner of the popular NBC program, The Voice. Over four seasons, The Voice has launched the careers of a number of successful artists; past winners are: Javier Colon, Jermaine Paul, Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery.

Season five began with twenty contestants, five contestants representing each team. The Voice team coaches are Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. Currently, ten contestants remain.

HubShout's SMAP, or Social Media Average Points system, looks at three key metrics to determine the top three The Voice contestants:

  • Number of Twitter followers per contestant
  • Number of Facebook fans per contestant
  • Number of customer reviews on iTunes for the most popular song of each contestant

HubShout's SMAP score is a simple but useful way to use social media to understand an audience. "The data from social media is immense. We are just starting to understand how it can be used to provide insights--this type of insight was once reserved for big companies who hired pollsters," said Chad Hill, CEO of HubShout.

HubShout's SMAP system accurately predicted the winners for season three and season four of The Voice.

Using the SMAP system, HubShout evaluated the remaining season five contestants. According to HubShout, the winners on season five of The Voice will be:

First Place: Caroline Pennell

Second Place: Matthew Schuler

Third Place: Jacquie Lee

"We're not claiming our SMAP system meets the test of peer reviewed science," said Hill, "But social media is an increasingly powerful and useful way to analyze and predict group behavior, and it's fun to apply current insights to a popular entertainment contest like The Voice."

HubShout is building out its practice in using SMAP and other social analysis and transforming the information into relevant and interesting stories and Buzz Graphics, HubShout's newest content marketing service.

HubShout's SMAP score will be put to the test when the winner of The Voice, season five, is announced in December 2013.
