PATTISON and Kids Can Press are pleased to announce that Cybèle Young's Governor General's Award-winning children's picture book, Ten Birds, and its recently published companion, Ten Birds Meet a Monster, will be featured on PATTISON Onestop digital screens across Canada as part of PATTISON's ongoing Art in Transit programme. These beautifully layered stories will be revealed sequentially page by page in a series of spots on PATTISON Onestop screens in Ontario residential networks and in shopping centres across the country from March 3 to April 11, 2014.

Written and illustrated by Cybèle Young, Ten Birds is a witty story that highlights ingenuity, common sense and the inadequacies of labels in a rich alternative world through intricate chiaroscuro pen-and-ink drawings. Young plays with shapes, shadows and sounds in the playful companion, Ten Birds Meet a Monster, drawing attention to the value of adventures and discoveries, teamwork and problem solving in this inventive counting book.

"These are the very first children's books to be presented by Art in Transit, and I'm excited to share the beautifully illustrated stories with children and adults alike," said Sharon Switzer, National Arts Programmer and Curator of PATTISON Onestop. "With our partners we've created a unique destination to enjoy a momentary and imaginative reprieve from our daily routines."

"Artists embrace any opportunity to share their work with a wider audience. That is one of the greatest appeals of the book format," said Cybèle Young. "It's an honour to have the pages of my children's books Ten Birds and Ten Birds Meet a Monster chosen by Art in Transit as works of art to be showcased in this unique format on PATTISON screens. This bold decision by curator Sharon Switzer validates my belief that the line previously defining 'what is art' is breaking down."

"We are always looking for new opportunities to get children reading, and this is a particularly unique and innovative way to bring our books to life," said Lisa Lyons Johnston, President of Kids Can Press. "We are delighted that Cybèle's beautiful Ten Birds and Ten Birds Meet a Monster are the first children's books selected for Art in Transit's groundbreaking arts and culture programme."
