New Case Study Highlights Maryland State Government Energy Savings

Maryland On Track To Achieve Goals

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., March 6, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A new case study by EnergyCAP, Inc. highlights energy management efforts by 16 Maryland state agencies representing about 80 percent of the state government's utility spending.

Overall, the Maryland state government is on track to achieve statewide energy efficiency targets mandated by the 2008 EmPOWER Maryland Act. The Maryland government has achieved an 11 percent reduction in energy use since 2008, and is on track to meet Governor O'Malley's EmPOWER Maryland goal of a 15% reduction by 2015.

The case study includes information about energy management initiatives that have been enabled or facilitated by the state's EnergyCAP energy tracking software, including:

  • Savings obtained through the state's deregulated commodity purchases
  • Demand response initiatives
  • Performance contracting
  • Utility bill auditing and analysis

The case study also describes Maryland's commitment to make state energy data more transparent by maintaining a public-facing database.

"We're showing that State government can take an active role in reducing energy use and in turn help save taxpayer dollars," said DGS Secretary Alvin C. Collins at a February 6 presentation recognizing high achievers in the energy reduction effort. "From lighting upgrades to infrastructure improvements, these projects are making a big impact on energy efficiency statewide…"

With the rise of energy reduction legislation among cities, counties, and states, EnergyCAP is a popular choice for tracking the progress of reduction efforts, and reporting when goals are met. EnergyCAP's 1,500+ clients include a number of government organizations:
