CannaVest Corp. Continues to Lay Groundwork for Domestic U.S. Industrial Hemp Industry

Company Sponsors the National Farmers Union Convention in Santa Fe, New Mexico

SAN DIEGO, March 20, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CannaVest Corp. (OTCBB:CANV), a leading industrial hemp company, is continuing its plans to be in the forefront of establishing a domestic industrial hemp cultivation and production infrastructure. US Hemp Oil, LLC (USHO), its wholly-owned subsidiary, acted as a Premium Exhibitor at the National Farmers Union Convention held in Santa Fe, New Mexico March 8–11, 2014.  CannaVest is an NFU All-States Camp Sponsor.

With the passage of the 2014 Farm Bill that removes barriers to legal U.S. hemp cultivation under certain conditions, CannaVest intends to be the leader in supplying U.S. farmers and businesses with hemp seed for cultivation, cultivation advisement, hemp seed and oil processing equipment, as well as supply chain solutions.

CannaVest is partnering and collaborating on research and pilot projects in states where hemp has been legalized through state laws in order to help local farmers determine which seed cultivar will best meet their farming needs. These research and pilot projects will help determine, among other things, which seeds grow best in their climate and region, what cultivar is best for seed oil, and what cultivar is best for suited for growing fiber.

The National Farmers Union (NFU), established in 1902, is considered the nation's premier farm organization dedicated to family farm agriculture, cooperative businesses, and rural communities. The NFU is an influential and independent national voice and coalition leader for its vibrant and growing grassroots membership through education, cooperation, and legislation. NFU's mission is to advocate for the sustainable production of food, fiber, feed and fuel, and to advocate for the economic and social well being—and quality of life—for family farmers and consumers. This mission goes hand-in-hand with CannaVest's goal to lead the resurgence of the industrial hemp agriculture industry in the U.S.

"The National Farmers Union Convention is important because members from throughout the country gather to discuss ideas important to family farmers and then they pass common-sense policies that will guide us and give direction to Congress in the upcoming year," said Doug Peterson, Minnesota Farmers Union President. "It is true grassroots policy-making at its finest." This year's convention was also attended by Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, and the presidents of other state farmers unions, including leaders from states where federal industrial hemp cultivation and production is now legal (per existent state initiatives). CannaVest's Chris Boucher and its Vice President, Operations Michael J. Mona III, met with a majority of the nine union presidents to discuss plans for pilot seed trials that will develop the proper cultivars for the U.S. geographic grow periods. "I see this as the beginning of states' rights to manage their own industrial hemp agriculture according to federal law as set forth in the 2014 Federal Farm Bill," said Boucher.

Under the direction of hemp pioneer Boucher, a twenty-year veteran of the industry and the first person to legally grow industrial hemp in the U.S. in 1994, CannaVest and USHO plan to provide agricultural solutions for seed procurement and cultivation, processing of raw hemp material, and the distribution of bulk wholesale hemp seeds, hemp oil, hemp protein powder, hemp flour, and hemp animal feed. CannaVest will continue to bring industrial hemp products to the mainstream marketplace and promote public awareness, through media exposure, for the exceptional nutritional profile as well as environmental and economic benefits of growing industrial hemp.

USHO will provide cultivation and processing equipment and training for farmers to harvest, process, and convert industrial hemp into the products that will meet the rising market demand. The Company will continue to consult and provide investment for farmers and processors in the commercial hemp industry to enhance their operational viability and business growth.
