Descartes Launches Driving Licence Management and Verification Service for the United Kingdom

CHIPPENHAM, United Kingdom, May 20, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Descartes Systems Group (TSX:DSG) (Nasdaq:DSGX), the global leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, announced the launch of Descartes SmartLicence™, an integrated driving licence management and verification service for the United Kingdom.

Descartes SmartLicence is a comprehensive online tool for managing driving licences and verifying the licence details with the UK's Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).The solution provides historical logs that help users demonstrate to regulatory authorities that they have effective systems and processes in place to ensure employees are entitled to drive on company business. Descartes SmartLicence helps assess the risk of licensed drivers based on endorsement codes and any penalty points, and users can conduct regular licence checks in accordance with that risk. Risk levels, audit periods and a range of advanced alerts are configurable to suit business requirements.

"All UK employers need to ensure that their drivers hold a valid driving licence," said Mike Ryder, Managing Director TMS Analysis Ltd. "We work with some of the largest fleets in the UK, and are happy to be able to make the Descartes SmartLicence service available to our clients for effective management of driving licences and fast licence verification with the DVLA."

Descartes SmartLicence extends the UK-based Descartes SmartCompliance solution portfolio. The offering includes Descartes Smartanalysis, a tool currently used in the UK by thousands of road transport operators to manage and comply with legislation concerning tachograph data, drivers' hours and the European Union Working Time Directive. Current Descartes Smartanalysis users can access Descartes SmartLicence using their existing password credentials.

"Every transport operator needs systems and procedures in place to help them meet their legal responsibilities. Failure to do so can result in severe fines and penalties," said Steve Fisher, Managing Director at Descartes Systems Group UK. "We're pleased to provide a solution that assists busy Transport Managers in managing compliance with tachograph regulations, drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and, now, verifying driving licences on one integrated platform."
