Company Comments on Petitions for Inter Partes Review Filed With USPTO

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ParkerVision, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRKR), a developer and marketer of semiconductor technology solutions for wireless applications, today announced that Petitions for Inter Partes Review of three of the company's patents were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO"). The petitions were filed by Michael Farmwald, admitted short-seller of the Company's stock, and RPX Corporation, requesting a review of ParkerVision patents 6,370,371, 6,266,518 and 6,061,551. These patents represent three of the four patents that a jury recently found were valid and infringed by Qualcomm, Incorporated in a patent infringement case in the United States District Court in the Middle District of Florida (case 3:11-cv-719). ParkerVision is awaiting final district court judgment in that case. The USPTO will review the petitions and determine whether or not to institute an Inter Partes review.

Jeffrey Parker, Chairman and CEO, commented, "The validity of these patents has been successfully tested in litigation, and we expect the same result at the U.S. patent office. We do not believe this petition will have any impact on the timing or the result of the final judgment in the recent District Court case against Qualcomm or any appellate court actions that may result. We find the motivation and timing of this petition curious."

In October 2013, a jury awarded ParkerVision $172.7 million in damages for Qualcomm's infringement of four of the Company's patents, including the three patents that are the subject of the USPTO petitions. The parties are awaiting final judgment from the District Court with regard to ParkerVision's outstanding motion for ongoing royalties and pre- and post-judgment interest as well as Qualcomm's outstanding motions for judgment as a matter law on infringement and invalidity.
