ParkerVision Appeals District Court Decision

Leading Appellate Counsel Donald Dunner of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP Joins McKool Smith on Legal Team

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 26, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ParkerVision, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRKR), a developer and marketer of semiconductor technology solutions for wireless applications, today announced that on June 25, 2014, it has filed an appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in the case of ParkerVision v. Qualcomm, Incorporated. The Company also announced that it has engaged the Washington, D.C. based firm of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP to partner with McKool Smith to represent the Company in this appeal.

On June 20, 2014, the United States District Court in the Middle District of Florida issued its final ruling in ParkerVision v. Qualcomm (3:11-cv-0719). The court denied Qualcomm's JMOL (Judgment as a Matter of Law) motion on invalidity, but granted Qualcomm's JMOL motion on non-infringement, overturning the jury's verdict of infringement. ParkerVision is appealing the district court's determination on infringement.

Jeffrey Parker, Chairman and CEO, commented, "We are disappointed by the Court's order as we firmly believe that sufficient evidence was presented to the jury to enable them to properly find for infringement in this case. Nonetheless, we always expected to find ourselves arguing this case at the appellate level, and our legal strategy reflects exactly that.   Our team of litigators at McKool Smith will bring an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the case, and our appellate counsel, led by Don Dunner, who has worked alongside McKool Smith on other high-profile cases, will add depth of experience in arguing cases at the federal appellate level. We anticipate the appellate process will take nine to twelve months.

"The district court decision in this case has no impact on our second patent infringement suit against Qualcomm and their customer HTC," continued Mr. Parker. "McKool Smith is representing us in this second action, which involves different patents and technologies.  Our technologies and our portfolio of nearly 250 patents are our most valuable assets, and we continue to vigorously pursue the realization of their value through product development and sales, licensing arrangements and, when necessary, litigation."
