City National Hires New Team in San Jose

Team Will Grow Wealth Management and Private Banking


SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 4, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- City National Bank, California's premier private and business bank, announced today it has expanded its Silicon Valley team, hiring two senior private bankers and a senior portfolio manager.

The bank hired Andre Luu as a senior vice president to lead private banking colleagues in San Jose and Palo Alto. Edwin Aquino has also joined as senior vice president in private banking. The bank also hired Scott Mlinarich in San Jose as a senior portfolio manager for City National Rochdale, the bank's wealth management affiliate.

Mlinarich has more than 25 years of experience managing personal assets for high net worth clients, as well as funds management and other financial services for institutional assets including employee benefit programs and profit sharing trusts. He most recently worked at HighMark Capital Management as a senior portfolio manager in San Jose and prior to that, he spent 11 years at Wells Capital Management as a managing director in San Francisco. He earned a bachelor's degree in business economics from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, California.

With more than 25 years of experience in financial services, Luu is a senior vice president and team leader with City National Bank's Private Client Services group. Based in San Jose, Luu leads the San Jose and Palo Alto teams. He will make sure that high-net-worth individuals and families take full advantage of City National's comprehensive capabilities, including banking, credit, treasury services, foreign exchange, and wealth management solutions.

Prior to joining City National, Luu served as managing director in private banking at Union Bank. Previously, he served as a senior private banker in Wells Fargo's Private Bank, and has prior experience at global financial institutions in Singapore and Hong Kong. Luu earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School. He is a licensed securities representative and holds a California Life Agent license. Luu speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, French and Vietnamese.

Also a veteran of the financial services industry, Aquino is a senior private banker with City National Bank's Private Client Services team. Based in the San Jose Regional Center, he works with a team of experts to deliver comprehensive banking, wealth planning, and investment management solutions to high-net-worth individuals, nonprofit organizations, business owners, corporate executives and professional service firms.

Prior to joining City National, he served high net worth clients at Union Bank. Previously, he held leadership and relationship management positions at financial institutions including First Bank, East West Bank, and Wells Fargo. Aquino holds a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering and a master's in engineering management from Saint Louis University. He is a Certified Financial Planner®, and a registered securities representative. Aquino serves on the board of Asian Americans for Community Involvement.
