EPA Approves AMP Holding Inc. E-GEN(TM) Electric Truck With On-Board Emergency Generator

Typical delivery trucks have only been able to achieve 7.5 mph. E-Gen(TM) Breakthrough Technology Offers an Estimated 20 mpg equivalent in 14,500 - 19,500 lb. Medium-Duty Delivery Trucks

CINCINNATI, Ohio, Aug. 18, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - AMP Holding Inc., (OTCBB and OTCQB: AMPD, a medium-duty truck OEM, announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved its WORKHORSE E-GEN™ electric truck that employs an alternatively-fueled 2.4 liter engine as an emergency generator to charge the battery pack.

As configured in the E-GEN Truck, the combination of the right-sized battery pack coupled with the security of an on-board backup generator and a transmission-less direct-drive system, provides the industry with a cost-competitive electric truck that also reduces range anxiety typically associated with electric trucks.

The ultra-efficient E-GEN Truck incorporates a small spark-ignition engine as an emergency generator that automatically turns on to recharge the battery pack only if the pack's state of charge falls below a predetermined threshold, and the drive selector is in PARK.

"We're pleased to be able to offer an innovative product like this," said Martin Rucidlo, President of AMP Electric Vehicles. "Delivering this unique solution to the medium duty truck market is a game-changer for fleet operators interested in reducing the life-cycle costs of their vehicles."

Steve Burns, Chief Executive Officer of AMP, added, "We are very excited to receive the EPA's approval. Our E-GEN Truck is a breakthrough design, purpose-built for the package and product delivery market."

Burns explained that the use of the engine enables AMP to produce an electric vehicle (EV) with a smaller battery pack. The smaller battery pack allows the company to produce a very competitively-priced EV that yields a positive return on its incremental cost in as little as three years, while eliminating operator concerns about range.

"The real benefit to the fleet operator, and perhaps the most exciting element of this, is that the new powertrain significantly reduces operating costs – an E-GEN Workhorse truck will deliver the equivalent of 20 mpg compared to the 7.5 mpg operators get now," said Burns.

AMP's E-GEN powertrain will be available in its new W-88 WORKHORSE medium-duty trucks in 2015.
