Superconductor Technologies Inc. to Exhibit at CIGRE 2014 August 25th to 29th

- More than 6900 experts from the worldwide power industry join forces for the Electrical Power System of Today and Tomorrow -

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 20, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Superconductor Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:SCON) ("STI"), a world leader in the development and production of high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials and associated technologies, will showcase the advantages of superconducting over conventional methods for power and electric grid applications at CIGRE 2014, the Council on Large Electric Systems, being held August 25th-29th in Paris. STI will exhibit at booth 114.

"STI's Conductus® superconducting wire is manufactured utilizing a simple layered architecture and low cost materials. Conductus wire is designed to scale quickly, utilizing high yields to produce commercial volumes at industry leading performance, which is exactly what is needed by the industry to fully commercialize superconducting devices for the smart grid," said Adam Shelton, STI's VP of Marketing and Product Line Management. "Conductus wire has already achieved performance surpassing minimum critical current of 500 Amps per centimeter (A/cm), the performance target for many superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) and high power superconducting cable designs. At CIGRE, we will join with several of our customers to share the value proposition SFCLs and superconducting cables offer to enhance the capacity and improve the survivability and reliability of the grid. We look forward to meeting with electric utilities and their suppliers who are working to commercialize the future super grids and smart grids while optimizing existing power systems equipment."

The leading event for power systems experts, CIGRE, the Council on Large Electric Systems, is an international organization for promoting collaboration with experts by sharing technical knowledge and joining forces to improve electric power systems. CIGRE counts more than 6,900 experts from all around the world working actively together to design and deploy the power system for the future, optimize existing equipment and power systems, respect the environment and facilitate access to information. http://www.cigre2014.com/
