No More In-Home Wireless Dead Zones; Teleste Introduces Its New Ethernet Over Coax Wi-Fi Adapter Powered by Entropic's Leading MoCA 2.0 Technology

LONDON and SAN DIEGO, Sept. 4, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Teleste Corporation, a leading provider of video and broadband technologies and services, has made the next big evolutionary step with MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) technology. Teleste is the first company in Europe to bring to market a whole new range of EoC (Ethernet over Coax) devices, based on Entropic's latest MoCA 2.0 chipset design.

The new MoCA 2.0 products will be on display at the International Broadcast Conference (IBC2014) in Amsterdam at the RAI Convention Centre, 12 -16 September, at the Teleste stand (4.B61, Hall 4) and in Entropic's Meeting Suite (G106/G107, Hall 13).

The new MoCA 2.0-based devices offer a massive increase in real, or MAC, data throughput. MoCA 2.0 pushes the performance envelope beyond other competing technologies, offering a minimum of 400Mbps – making it an essential choice for operators who need to get multiple streams of HD and 4K video entertainment around a customer's home without performance issues and without installing any new cables. The new MoCA 2.0 standard can also deliver one single point-to-point link over coax of 1000Mbps, when in 'turbo' bonded mode. Another key benefit is that the MoCA technology uses the existing coax cables and outlets in the home, while coexisting with the TV and broadband signals.

Powering Teleste's Ethernet over Coax Wi-Fi adapter is Entropic's second-generation, single-chip MoCA 2.0 system solution, the EN2800-series. Building upon the maturity and performance of Entropic's first-generation MoCA 2.0 solution, the EN2800-series now offers the most compact, economical and lowest power solution available on the market today – without sacrificing performance. Additionally, the EN2800-series provides the maximum throughput, critical power management features and enhanced network dependability to meet stringent Quality of Service (QoS) requirements.

"We believe the killer application for this new found speed and performance is rapidly shaping up to be high speed wireless extension throughout the customer's property and garden," said Jason Dando, Ethernet over Coax product manager, Teleste. "With so many Wi-Fi only devices now in consumers' homes, operators are seeing that it is no longer good enough to just deliver high speed data to the front door, it has to go right through every part of the home and deliver that performance right into the customer's hand."

With the demand for this killer app very much in focus, Teleste is launching a version of their adapter with 80211.AC wireless and 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Connecting these to the in-home coax network will provide high speed Wi-Fi coverage to in-home dead spots where traditional single hotspots do not get coverage.

Dando continued, 'We firmly believe that high speed data and Wi-Fi is now as essential a utility in the subscriber's home as their water and gas. So because of this it should be every bit as reliable. Imagine how unhappy subscribers would be if the electricity in their homes only worked in some of their rooms, or if the lights went dim when too many people were using them. We see Wi-Fi extension with Entropic's MoCA 2.0 technology as the only way forward for any operator who is serious about delivering high performance broadband, video and data."

"Teleste continues to evolve home networking with their adapter solutions," said Al Servati, vice president, Marketing, Entropic. "With Entropic's MoCA 2.0 technology embedded in the new Teleste Ethernet over Coax Wi-Fi adapter, consumers can finally create a true and un-interrupted whole-home network to access all of their high-quality multimedia content stored inside the home and in the cloud."

Simple Plug-and Play Set-Up

The Teleste Ethernet over Coax Wi-Fi adapter uses a simple plug-and-play connection to a standard Ethernet router and the in-home coax network. It enables two or more units, with a maximum of 16 devices, to be connected on the same coax network. Setting up the Wi-Fi is also easy as consumers simply connect the device into the existing router with the supplied Ethernet cable, configure the device by typing the default address into a web browser on the consumer's laptop or tablet and follow the onscreen wizard.
