HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 17, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Connecticut Children's Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of nine new physicians to its Divisions of Neurology, Developmental Pediatrics & Rehab Medicine, General Pediatrics, Urology, Hematology & Oncology, Emergency Medicine, Rheumatology and Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect.
Norrell Atkinson, MD, joined the Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect program (SCAN) at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Atkinson comes to Connecticut Children's from Eastern Virginia Medical School - Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, where she completed a fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and Masters of Science from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Atkinson received her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at George Washington University – Children's National Medical Center.
Markus J. Bookland, MD, joined the Division of Neurosurgery at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Bookland comes to Connecticut Children's from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Hospitals where he completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery with Emory University. Prior to this, he concluded a residency in neurosurgery at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Bookland graduated with his Bachelor of Science from Iowa State University and earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins.
Thyde Maeterlinck Dumont-Mathieu, MD, MPH, joined the Division of Developmental Pediatrics and Rehab Medicine at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Dumont-Mathieu returns to Connecticut Children's Medical Center where she completed her pediatric residency. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and earned both her medical degree and Masters of Public Health from the University Of Connecticut. She completed her fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics and Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine.
Patricia Garcia, MD, joined the Division of Primary Care at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Garcia graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelors of Science in Biology from The College of New Jersey and earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School. She completed her pediatric residency at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, where she also served as chief resident.
Miriam Harel, MD, joined the Division of Urology at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Harel comes to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, where she is currently completing a fellowship in pediatric urology. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts from CUNY Brooklyn College. Dr. Harel earned her medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and completed her residency in urology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
Prachi Dilip Kothari, DO, joined the Division of Hematology & Oncology at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Kothari comes to Connecticut Children's, where she recently completed her pediatric residency through the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine. Dr. Kothari received her Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University, graduating with Honors. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University.
Mark L. Schomer, MD, joined the Division of Neurology at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Schomer comes to Connecticut Children's from Boston Children's Hospital, where he completed his residency in Pediatric Neurology and fellowship in Epilepsy & Clinical Neurophysiology. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Boston University and his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine.
Amisha Shah, MD, joined the Division of Emergency Medicine at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Shah graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Boston University and earned her medical degree from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, where she also served as chief resident.
Heather Tory, MD, MPH, joined the Division of Rheumatology and the Department of Quality and Safety at Connecticut Children's. Dr. Tory comes to Connecticut Children's from Boston Children's Hospital, where she completed a fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology, as well as a fellowship in Patient Safety and Quality at Harvard Medical School. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College and earned her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency training at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and received her Masters of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health.
