New York, Jan. 13, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Allovate, LLC, a specialty biopharmaceutical company, today announced that the company has signed an exclusive provider agreement with Restore Health to bring the new Allerdent OMIT System™, a personalized toothpaste system for the delivery of allergy immunotherapy, to patients nationwide.

Allerdent™ is the first oral mucosal immunotherapy (OMIT) toothpaste system designed to help moderate-to-severe allergy sufferers address the underlying cause of allergic response through their normal daily tooth brushing routine. It is customized and prescribed by a physician to address a wide range of allergies. With consistent use, allergy immunotherapy has been shown to significantly reduce or eliminate the body's allergic responses to pollen, animal dander, dust, insects and other allergens. Additionally, where allergy immunotherapy has been used on a sustained basis for between three and five years, its benefits have been shown to continue even after stopping treatment.

"Our agreement with Restore Health will make the Allerdent OMIT System™ available in all of the 49 states Restore Health currently serves. We are excited to partner with Restore Health, an innovator in personalized medicine, to roll-out the Allerdent OMIT System™ to providers throughout the United States," said Michael Nelson, J.D., co-founder and CFO of Allovate.

"Allovate is changing the way patients and physicians treat moderate to severe allergies. No other company is able to offer this new, convenient and personalized treatment to the more than 50 million moderate-to-severe allergy sufferers in the United States, without disrupting their normal lifestyle," said Erick Berglund, PhD., co-founder and CEO of Allovate.

"Through Restore Health, we are able to provide a customized, user-friendly allergy immunotherapy toothpaste system. Our OMIT toothpaste is designed to enable allergy immunotherapy without injections, frequent trips to the physician, or inconvenient treatment regimens. These are the typical issues both patients and physicians have with immunotherapy shots and drops that, unfortunately, have limited the use of this life-altering treatment."

Allergy immunotherapy has long been used to help desensitize the body to allergens such as pollen. By exposing the body's immune system over time to purified proteins like those found in allergens, the body learns to recognize them and stops or limits allergic response to them. "Most people treat allergies to pollen, dust, and animals with over-the-counter medications, which work temporarily but fail to address the underlying causes of the allergic response. Others just decide to live with their symptoms. A few seek allergy shots, which are helpful in reducing allergic symptoms by helping the immune systems adjust to allergens over time," said Dr. Berglund. "Our aim is to make it easier for people suffering allergy symptoms to address the underlying cause of the allergic response."

Shara Rudner, RPh., FIACP, FACA, Director, Clinical Trials Group for Restore Health, partnered with the research team at Allovate that developed the new toothpaste delivery system. Research results were published in the July/August 2014 issue: International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding. "The research shows that using a toothpaste delivery system to treat patients with seasonal allergies is very promising," said Rudner.

About Allovate, LLC

Allovate, LLC is a specialty biopharmaceutical company in New York City that is developing improved approaches to allergen-specific immunotherapy for the treatment of allergic diseases. Allergic diseases affect more than 25% of the global industrial population, at an annual cost in excess of $33 billion in the U.S. alone. There is an enormous and growing unmet need for treatment options that modify the underlying disease rather than treating the symptoms alone. Allovate's mission is to expand the use of immunotherapy among the millions of allergy sufferers by developing products that are safer, more effective, and easier to administer. Allovate's premiere product is Allerdent™, specially formulated toothpaste that is easily and stably combined with immunotherapy allergens. Thus, a patient's daily immunotherapy administration can be seamlessly integrated with the ritual of daily tooth-brushing, a habitual lifelong healthcare behavior for most people. Allerdent™ has been developed to support long-term patient adherence to immunotherapy, which may result in more successful and long-lasting treatments.
