Call for Review: OpenADR Alliance Releases Draft of OpenADR 2.0 Program Guide For Utilities and Manufacturers

MORGAN HILL, CALIF., Jan. 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The OpenADR Alliance today announced availability of the first draft of the OpenADR 2.0 Program Guide to facilitate more DR programs and further product development. The guide defines typical automated demand response (ADR) programs and explains how they are implemented using OpenADR 2.0. The OpenADR Program Guide expands the range of DR deployment scenarios available to energy providers, while giving equipment manufacturers better information on typical DR Program usage models so they can support a full range of DR programs in their products.

"The OpenADR standard is rapidly becoming the international solution of choice for residential, commercial and industrial DR programs," said Rolf Bienert, technical director, OpenADR Alliance. "This guide will provide manufacturers with a better understanding of the requirements of their systems beyond the OpenADR 2.0 interface and will give utilities commonly used recipes tailored to target typical DR objectives and problems."

"Each DR program is unique, aligned to the requirements of the region it is deployed in," said Ed Koch, co-author and ambassador, OpenADR Alliance. "This guide was created to shed light on the variability of DR program designs, deployment scenarios, and OpenADR characteristics to help expand deployment of ADR programs and adoption of OpenADR certified products."

The OpenADR 2.0 Program Guide will provide utilities with examples of DR program models that can be adapted for their own DR program implementations, while providing equipment manufacturers with a better understanding of DR program usage models for use in their control systems.

The OpenADR Alliance is soliciting feedback on the draft document over the next 60-days and plans to publish the final guide in mid-2015. Please send any comments regarding the guide to comments@openadr.org. In order to enable system-level interoperability, the OpenADR Alliance is also planning to create a testing and certification program for the templates contained in the Program Guide.

NOTE: QualityLogic will give a workshop, "Implementing Automated Demand Response Programs" as part of the Utility University at DistribuTECH 2015 on Feb. 2nd from 8am-12pm. This workshop is for utilities, DR designers and program implementers who are planning to use OpenADR 2.0.  Also be sure to visit the OpenADR Alliance Booth 3811 for a presentation by QualityLogic on Feb. 3rd at 3pm, "Utility Guide to OpenADR Program Design".  To view the theater schedule please click here.
