Hausfeld Scales Up to Meet Burgeoning Demand for Litigation Expertise

Hausfeld Further Expands London Office With Appointment of Ed Coulson as Partner

LONDON, Feb. 17, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hausfeld is delighted to announce that Ed Coulson will be joining the firm as a Partner in its London office as of April 13, 2015.

Ed joins from Berwin Leighton Paisner where he has built up a decade's experience advising on complex competition and commercial litigation. For many years, Ed had a lead role in National Grid's high profile and influential follow-on damages litigation in the English High Court against members of the Gas Insulated Switchgear ("GIS") cartel that operated in Europe for over 16 years. Ed played a significant part from commencement in November 2008 through to settlement of the damages action in June 2014, just days before the opening statements were made. This case - alongside Hausfeld's Air Cargo claim - has been described by a number of publications as one of the biggest cartel damages actions in Europe. At Hausfeld, Ed's focus will be the firm's competition litigation practice, bringing his significant experience in multi-party litigation before the English High Court and Court of Appeal, as well as various methods of alternative dispute resolution, to bear alongside his colleagues in this area.

A graduate in Modern Languages (French and Italian) from Oxford University, Ed went on to BPP Law School and then to King's College London where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law. Ed is also qualified as a Solicitor Advocate.

Ed's appointment comes at a time when Hausfeld is continuing to expand its competition litigation offering. This is the fifth major announcement by Hausfeld in recent months. In October 2014, Laurent Geelhand, Michelin's General Counsel for Europe, joined Hausfeld as managing partner in Brussels, where he has opened and will manage Hausfeld's second European office. Additionally, Hausfeld's Washington, DC office announced two major hires, former federal judge and Jones Day partner Walter Kelley and distinguished litigator Frederick "Rick" Kuykendall III, who joined the firm as Partner and Of Counsel respectively. Last month, Bonny Sweeney, a veteran antitrust litigator and former Chair of the Antitrust and Unfair Competition Law Section of the State Bar of California, joined Hausfeld's San Francisco office as a partner.

Anthony Maton, Managing Partner of Hausfeld London, said: "With Ed's arrival and expertise in our core business following fast after Laurent Geelhand's arrival from Michelin, our opening in Brussels and recent appointments in the US, Hausfeld now has a team of competition litigators which is unparalleled internationally. We have ambitious plans to grow further in 2015."

Ed added: "I am delighted to be joining Hausfeld's market-leading competition litigation practice. Hausfeld has an unrivalled reach in this area, offering clients innovative solutions, creative thinking and a pioneering spirit, which makes it an exciting place for a lawyer to be. I look forward to making my contribution."

Ed's arrival brings the European partnership head count to six and at the same time the firm announces new associates into its team. This reflects its growing workload and reputation, both in competition litigation and, increasingly, in financial services litigation.
