LEMMINKÄINEN TO IMPLEMENT THE EXTENSION OF TEOLLISUUSKATU AND THE MODIFICATION WORKS OF PASILANKATU IN HELSINKI
Lemminkäinen and the City of Helsinki have agreed on the implementation of the first construction phase of the Teollisuuskatu street extension and the modification works of Pasilankatu street in Helsinki. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 9.5 million. The work will start in March 2015 and be completed at the end of 2016.
The project includes the construction of a new tunnel to the Teollisuuskatu street. The new tunnel will be combined with an existing tunnel under the Ratapihantie street. The renovation of the old tunnel into one suitable for vehicle traffic is an innovation developed by the designer and the City of Helsinki. On the Pasilankatu street, new municipal engineering will be constructed and the flow of traffic will be improved by renewing the lane arrangements and changing the lines of the rail traffic rails. In addition, two new bridges will be built as well as high-quality paving and green structures on the Teollisuuskatu street.
The alteration works are connected to the development of the Central Pasila centre and the improvement of traffic arrangements in the area. The renovated Pasila will be developed into a significant, modern, new city centre of regional and national importance. According to estimates, there will be approximately 20,000 inhabitants and 50,000 workplaces in Pasila by 2040.
