MaxLite honored by EPA as a 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year

MaxLite earns award for protecting the environment through manufacturing products that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions

WEST CALDWELL, N.J., April 7, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized MaxLite with a 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for its leadership in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing energy-efficient products and educating consumers about energy efficiency. MaxLite's accomplishments will be recognized at the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2015.

"We are honored to receive the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for the second year in a row," said MaxLite President and CEO Yon Sung. "Our team at MaxLite is committed to designing innovative, energy-efficient lighting solutions that increase the variety of ENERGY STAR certified luminaires available to consumers."

MaxLite is receiving the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for the third time. The company was first honored in 2009, and again in 2014, for its leadership in manufacturing products that earn the ENERGY STAR, the government-backed symbol of energy efficiency. MaxLite offers a portfolio of more than 200 ENERGY STAR certified indoor and outdoor lamps and luminaires.

In 2014, MaxLite introduced an unprecedented number of LED products to the Certified Subcomponent Database (CSD), which enables fixture manufacturers to more easily certify their luminaires with ENERGY STAR. Among the products MaxLite introduced were the LED Puck Lamp, the industry's first CSD-listed GU24 LED lamp rated for use in fully enclosed luminaires, and the 17-watt LED Omnidirectional A-lamp, a high-lumen 100-watt incandescent equivalent that is both ENERGY STAR certified and on the CSD. MaxLite also introduced the first CSD-listed GU24 LED BR30 lamp, developed to help manufacturers create certified downlight luminaires. With 16 GU24 lamps and six LED light engines on the CSD, MaxLite offers the most light sources available to ease manufacturers' processes when trying to develop ENERGY STAR certified LED luminaires.

MaxLite also collaborated with Habitat for Humanity and utilities to bring rebates on ENERGY STAR qualified products to consumers who would otherwise be unable to obtain them at an affordable cost. The number of Habitat for Humanity ReStore outlets selling MaxLite products increased to 130 stores nationwide in 2014. In total, MaxLite donated $300,000 in ENERGY STAR qualified products to Habitat for Humanity last year. Many of the products were used in the organization's annual Home Builders Blitz, an initiative that builds affordable homes for low-income households.

Partner of the Year Award winners are selected from the 16,000 organizations working with ENERGY STAR to protect the environment through greater energy efficiency, including manufacturers, retailers, public schools, hospitals, real estate companies, and home builders. Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than two billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2013 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

"MaxLite's ENERGY STAR-certified products are helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change," said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. "MaxLite's efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations."
