International Medical Corps and MobileCause Issue Call for Volunteer Fundraisers to Support Critical Relief Work in Nepal

LOS ANGELES, April 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- International Medical Corps and MobileCause are encouraging virtual volunteers to fundraise for International Medical Corps' disaster relief work in Nepal. Volunteer fundraisers are asked to click http://mcause.us/med or text MED to 71777 to volunteer and/or donate with the MobileCause Crowdfunding platform.

International Medical Corps' emergency response team has been on the ground in Nepal since April 25 when the devastating earthquake struck, assessing the damage, delivering critically needed medicines and supplies and mobilizing to provide emergency care to survivors. Preliminary numbers indicate nearly 5,000 deaths and thousands of injuries. As in the aftermath of any natural disaster, speed saves lives - donations, supplies and medical care are critical to immediately reaching earthquake survivors. International Medical Corps is deploying additional staff and resources as quickly as possible to support relief efforts, including Mobile Medical Units in Gorkha and Dhading near the epicenter, and will be rapidly expanding to reach the hardest-hit areas.

People interested in volunteering to fundraise can simply click http://mcause.us/med or text MED to 71777 and Become a Fundraiser to set up their own fundraising page in minutes.

"Smartphones have fundamentally changed the way we live, work, play and now help others," said MobileCause CEO Sean MacNeill. "We provide solutions for a new generation of giving and are motivated to work with International Medical Corps to respond quickly to this tragic disaster."

"We are grateful to be partnering with MobileCause, whose fundraising platform makes it easier for donors to give from any mobile device. Their critical support will quickly make a difference in relieving the suffering of families and communities who are reeling from this terrible disaster," said Rebecca Milner, Vice President of Institutional Advancement for International Medical Corps.

The U.S. now has 74% smartphone adoption, which is changing donor expectations, and new solutions are needed for nonprofit organizations to address the challenges and opportunities associated with a mobile first society. MobileCause focuses on helping nonprofit organizations gain donors, increase recurring gifts and engage supporters. The MobileCause Crowdfunding solution empowers nonprofit organizations to conveniently raise donations through their networks of volunteers, donors and staff.
