U.S. News STEM Solutions National Leadership Conference Includes AVID in Panel Presentation on College Access

Dr. Sandy Husk, CEO of AVID, addresses the issue of equity and persistence for secondary students into higher education


SAN DIEGO, May 6, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AVID® (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a San Diego-based nonprofit, proven college readiness system, announced today that Sandy Husk, CEO of AVID, will speak about the daunting road to college in a session entitled Opening the Doors: Cultivating College Access and Completion on June 30, 2015 during the U.S. News STEM Solutions Conference being held in San Diego, CA. She will be joined by Christopher Yanov, Founder and President of Reality Changers.

AVID is well known for its role in closing the achievement gap for all students, including those who are underrepresented in college, and it provides educators with proven, real-world strategies to accelerate the achievement of these students, as well as all students across the entire campus, so that they can succeed in college, career, and life. Graduation rates, admittance to college, and persistence data are all positively impacted as a result of implementation of AVID. Dr. Husk will speak to how schools can impact the lives and success of their students by enrolling them in rigorous courses and teaching them AVID strategies. The session is scheduled to take place starting at 9:45 a.m. at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel.
