Association of Asian American Investment Managers Holds 2015 National Conference "Ahead of the Curve" in New York

New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli to receive AAAIM 2015 Champion's Award for commitment to industry diversity; nationwide mentorship program launched.

NEW YORK, N.Y., May 19, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - The Association of Asian American Investment Managers (AAAIM) will hold its 2015 National Conference on May 27-28, 2015 at the Alexandria Conference Center in New York City. The annual conference convenes chief investment officers, thought leaders and key decision-makers from the investment management community to offer insights that help investors and Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in the field stay ahead of the curve.

Notably, Hon. Thomas P. DiNapoli, Comptroller, State of New York will accept the AAAIM 2015 Champion's Award on behalf of the New York State Common Retirement Fund for its commitment to diversity and support of minority and women managers.

To continue to build the pipeline of talented Asian Americans in investment management, AAAIM will also announce the launch of its nationwide Emerging Leaders Program. AAAIM members in key cities will host mentorship events throughout the year where young professionals in the field can match up with seasoned veterans from across the industry. Details on these events will be released as dates are confirmed.

This year's conference will also feature opening remarks by New York City Comptroller, Scott Stringer, and keynotes from Mark Doms, United States Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs and Robert K. Steel, CEO of Perella Weinberg Partners, former deputy mayor to Michael R. Bloomberg and former Under Secretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance. Mr. Doms will provide a macroeconomic overview looking at key factors in the market, while Mr. Steel will bring the insights of his vast experiences to the conference theme of being Ahead of the Curve.

Other distinguished speakers include Ginger Lew, AAAIM board member, CEO of Three Oaks Investments LLC and former senior counselor to the White House National Economic Council; Tom Lee, Executive Director & Chief Investment Officer of the New York State Teachers Retirement System; Chris Li, President & Chief Investment Officer for Lockheed Martin Investment Management Company; and many others from leading plan sponsors, investment firms and boutique investment management companies who will engage in thought-provoking discussions on mentorship, professional development, cyber security, infrastructure investment, various asset classes and the role of consultants as it pertains to emerging managers.

"While Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders have made significant contributions to further the field of investment management, there still remains a void of diverse executive leadership across much of the industry," said Chris Chan, president of AAAIM. "For this reason, AAAIM is very pleased to annually host its national conference, which serves as an important forum for AAPIs to network with industry leaders, learn about current trends and issues, and gain access to national and international institutional investors."
