Athletes at NCAA Div. 1 Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championship to compete on Mondo surface

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Collegiate athletes at the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championship meet today through Saturday will compete on a surface made by Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets.

The competition will take place at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville. This venue features a nine-lane, 400-meter Mondotrack surface with 48-inch lanes—the width specified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and required for international meets. In addition to the track, all the runways—including two for javelin, two for long jump and triple jump, and two for pole vault—have the Mondotrack surface. The track also has full markings for all NCAA and IAAF events, and directional events can be run in either direction on either straight. Hodges Stadium is a certified Class II facility by the IAAF.

Hodges Stadium also will host the USATF Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships July 23 – 26. Earlier this month, the facility served as the venue for the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track & Field Championship as well as the Florida High School Track and Field State Championships.

About Mondotrack

The competition surface of the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics, Mondotrack builds on the success of the company's renowned Super X Performance. Designed for superior athletic performance, Mondotrack provides optimal traction and a greater contact area than other tracks. It converts the maximum amount of force generated by athletes' foot strikes to energy for maximum energy return, which helps athletes achieve faster times compared to running on other surfaces.

Mondo has served as the competition surface of the Olympics Games since 1992, and more than 250 world records have been set on tracks made by Mondo.
