Covisint and Cisco Speak on the Future of Connected Car Security at TU-Automotive Detroit 2015

Keynote Presentation to Highlight Internet of Things Security Services for Automotive Industry

DETROIT, May 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Covisint Corporation (Nasdaq:COVS), the cloud platform of choice for Internet of Things (IoT) and Identity Management (IdM) solutions, and Cisco (Nasdaq:CSCO), the worldwide leader in IT, today announced they will jointly discuss the future of the connected vehicle at TU-Automotive Detroit.

Connected vehicles are transforming the owner and driver experience, offering increased convenience, personalization and entertainment value. However, for end-users to fully reap the benefits, manufacturers need to increasingly navigate gaps in both security and connectivity. At the event, Covisint chief security officer David Miller and Cisco® director of smart connected vehicles Andreas Mai will discuss how vehicles can safely connect with the world around them to enable the next-generation user experience.

Taking place at the Suburban Collection Showcase in Novi, Michigan, June 3-4, 2015, TU-Automotive Detroit is the world's premier conference and exhibition dedicated to the future of connected car innovation in automotive technology. Details of the keynote presentation include:

  • What: "Billions of Connected Things: Ingredients for Interoperability"
  • Who: David Miller, chief security officer, Covisint, and Andreas Mai, director of smart connected vehicles, Cisco
  • When: 11:50 a.m. EDT on June 3, 2015

"Automotive manufacturers are increasingly providing more connectivity options to the consumer by allowing them to connect to their cars, smartphones, wearable devices, homes and more," said Miller. "These options are providing increased value to vehicle owners and manufacturers alike, but what most of us don't fully understand are the security consequences of exposing all of our personal information, data and passwords with this advanced connectivity. Connected cars need to offer unified and interoperable user experiences to keep driver information secure, which will not be possible without collaboration across the automotive and technology industries."

"We are at an inflection point with connected vehicles where security has become mission-critical to capturing and protecting the value of vehicle connectivity," said Mai. "We need to evaluate the strategic and security implications of vehicles becoming increasingly connected to other 'things' and to an ecosystem of value chain partners to determine the ingredients for an interoperable, seamless and highly secure connected car experience."

As one of the early pioneers in the cloud and IoT, Covisint has long been at the forefront of helping customers and business partners connect the larger automotive ecosystem and enable better user experiences for owners and drivers of vehicles.

In addition to the keynote presentation, Covisint will be providing interactive demonstrations that will showcase how Covisint's secure cloud platform enables cohesive IoT experiences for automotive manufacturers and their customers. Paying homage to one of the original dynamic duos, the exhibit (#C76) will re-create Batman and Robin's adventures as the dynamic duo – complete with the display of one of the original 1966 Batmobiles used in the television series to highlight how Covisint can securely connect the vehicle ecosystem of partners.
