First Tennessee Foundation to Double Contributions for Maryville Relief Efforts

MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hundreds of people and scores of businesses have been evacuated following last night's train derailment that spilled toxic chemicals in Maryville, Tenn. Nonprofit organizations are working hard to provide disaster relief, and CSX Railroad is providing relief services and covering expenses for organizations like the Red Cross.

Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, the region's largest hunger-relief charity, is in the evacuated area and is working frantically to be able to provide much-needed food for families and other area food banks as we approach this long holiday weekend. First Tennessee Bank, which also has a branch and a data center in the evacuated area, is offering a way for people to double their contributions to Second Harvest in Maryville.

Anyone who wants to help can take a cash or check donation for the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee to any First Tennessee Bank across Tennessee. The First Tennessee Foundation will match those donations, up to a total of $5,000, through July 10.

"First Tennessee is proud to be Tennessee's bank, and we are proud to be Maryville's bank," said Pam Fansler, First Tennessee president in East Tennessee. "Our thoughts and prayers are with our customers, friends and neighbors who aren't able to return home as we enter this July 4th weekend."
