UPS Moves to New Facility in Heerenveen

Amsterdam, July 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced that customers in the northern Netherlands will now be served out of a new 4,000 square-meter facility in Heerenveen. The new facility for package sorting and delivery employs 170 people, accommodates 55 delivery trucks and can sort 2,500 packages per hour. As the new center for UPS's activities in the region, it is the base for providing reliable logistics and transport services to customers in Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe and the northeast region of the Flevoland province.

"This move addresses growing demand we are seeing in this important region of the country and shows our long-term commitment to helping our customers connect to global markets," said Henk Kammeraat, country manager UPS Netherlands. "The new building was selected with this growth in mind, and there is potential for further expansion of its sorting capacity and the creation of additional jobs in the future."

The expansion is the latest of a number of investments by UPS in the Netherlands in recent months. In October 2014, UPS doubled the package sorting capacity of its Tilburg facility to 5,000 packages an hour. In January, the company added 8,500 square meters of warehouse space to its two existing contract logistics facilities in Venlo. A healthcare-dedicated freight forwarding facility opened in May at Schiphol, complete with temperature-controlled zones, 24/7 monitoring and healthcare-specific safety protocols. In June, UPS announced a new 28,000 square-meter healthcare distribution center in Roermond, to be completed in January 2016. UPS announced in 2014 a plan to invest close to $2 billion in its European infrastructure during the next four to five years.
