AppliedMicro's X-Gene(R) Processor Enterprise Software Ecosystem Continues Rapid Growth With SUSE

SUSE Launches Partner Program to Bring SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 to 64-bit ARM for Enterprise Customers

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 14, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq:AMCC), a global leader in computing and connectivity solutions, today announced another significant milestone in the expansion of the enterprise software ecosystem around its industry-leading X-Gene® server processor, the only production 64-bit server processor. SUSE® today announced the expansion of its partner program to include support for 64-bit ARM server processors.

"AppliedMicro is excited to see SUSE, a leader in the enterprise software ecosystem, making significant progress towards a release of SUSE Linux Enterprise with the expansion of its partner program," said John Williams, vice president of marketing at AppliedMicro. "SUSE Linux is an excellent complement to AppliedMicro's X-Gene technology enabling platforms that combine the performance and power-efficiency of X-Gene server processors with the enterprise robustness of SUSE Linux Enterprise."

"AppliedMicro has grown their ecosystem to support all the major Linux variations and I believe this will ultimately lead to many more datacenters doing proof of concept tests on their systems," said Patrick Moorhead, president and principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy.

The expansion of the partner program makes a version of SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 available to partners to develop, test and deliver solutions based on 64-bit ARM server technology enabling new levels of choice, flexibility and infrastructure cost savings for scale-out data center deployments.

"SUSE has worked closely with AppliedMicro in the development of SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 for ARM," said David Byte, senior technology strategist for alliances and integrated systems at SUSE. "We believe our experience delivering leading enterprise software solutions for both x86 and Power platforms will enable SUSE Linux Enterprise to be the premier operating system for 64-bit ARM scale-out data centers."
