Widener University selects Mondo Super X 720 for new outdoor track

CHESTER, Pa., Sept. 15, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets, today announced that Widener University has selected the Mondo Super X 720 surface for its new outdoor track.

Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania, is installing an eight-lane, 400-meter Super X 720 track which will replace a polyurethane track at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. The Mondo surface also will be installed for the long jump/triple jump area, and for the high jump and pole vault runways.

Widener administrators made their decision thanks in part to their positive experience with Mondo surfaces on the university's indoor track and weight room.

"We trust the product. The indoor track is still going strong after 15 years," said Vince Touey, head coach of Widener's men's track and field and cross country teams. "Mondo also has a proven performance record and a certain cachet that comes with being the track surface for world championships and the Olympic Games. Plus, our student-athletes like competing on it."

Miller Flooring Company, a general contractor and a Mondo dealer based in Westchester, Pennsylvania, is installing the Mondo surface. The track is slated to be finished later this month.

Mondo's Super X 720 track surface combines the backing of Mondotrack and the wear layer of the company's Super X Performance track which are vulcanized together to form one continuous, seamless piece of material that delivers exceptional traction, durability, drainage and safety. The backing provides exceptional shock absorbency and energy return, which further helps the performance layer increase athletes' comfort and enables them to achieve faster times than when running on other surfaces.

Other venues in the U.S. with the Super X 720 surface include Drake Stadium at UCLA; Hornet Stadium at Sacramento State (California), which hosted the 2014 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships; John McDonnell Field at University of Arkansas (Fayetteville); and the Vanderbilt Student Rec Center at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee).
