Oxford Said Business School, University of Oxford and Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University to Allow Dual Pursuit of MBA and Master's in Global Affairs

Oxford Said, University of Oxford and Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University, will be partnering to allow their students the opportunity to complete both the MBA and the Schwarzman Scholars-Tsinghua University Master of Global Affairs

OXFORD, United Kingdom, Sept. 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Oxford University's Saïd Business School and Schwarzman Scholars are pleased to announce that they will be partnering to allow their students the opportunity to complete both the full-time Oxford Master of Business Administration (MBA) and the Schwarzman Scholars-Tsinghua University Master of Global Affairs.

Dana Brown, Director of the Oxford MBA, explains, 'It is vital for future business leaders to truly understand the global and complex nature of the business environment they will be operating in. This partnership allows a select group of students to build in-depth knowledge, networks, and experience in China through the Schwarzman Scholars programme, before gaining a deep understanding of global business practices and cutting-edge management practices by completing the Oxford MBA.'

Welcoming its inaugural class in 2016, Schwarzman Scholars is a highly selective program designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders for the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century. Each year, up to 200 Schwarzman Scholars from around the world will complete the one-year Master's in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing as well as benefit from cultural immersion and networking opportunities in China. Through their leadership in the coming decades, Schwarzman Scholars will help ensure strong economic, political, academic, and non-profit ties between China and its peers around the world.

Oxford Saïd's one-year MBA provides students with the business-specific skills needed for leadership in a complex and interconnected world. Oxford MBA students gain skills and knowledge in traditional business areas, such as finance, analytics, marketing, operations, and accounting while also developing a heightened awareness of the perpetual influence that politics, technological change, and society have on business. The MBA builds on and complements the work that students do as Schwarzman Scholars, challenging them to create entrepreneurial solutions to complex global challenges and to further develop the soft skills needed for impact in their work and career.

'We are delighted to have created this unique connection between Oxford Saïd and Schwarzman Scholars,' said Stephen A. Schwarzman, the program's founder. 'The combination of our two degrees provides an unparalleled opportunity for future leaders who understand the critical role China will play in the business environment of the 21st century.'

As part of the collaboration, students apply independently but simultaneously to both programs, and if successful would start the Oxford MBA upon successful completion of their Master of Global Affairs as Schwarzman Scholars. Students will receive coordinated advice through the admissions process to both programs, and through their first year, to allow them to combine the two degrees and the resources of both programs to maximum benefit.

About Schwarzman Scholars:

Schwarzman Scholars was inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship, which was founded in 1902 to promote international understanding and peace, and is designed to meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond. Blackstone Co-Founder Stephen A. Schwarzman personally contributed $100 million to the program and is leading a fundraising campaign to raise an additional $300 million from private sources to endow the program in perpetuity. The endowment will support 200 scholars annually from the U.S., China and around the world for a one-year Master's Degree program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China's most prestigious universities and an indispensable base for the country's scientific and technological research. Scholars chosen for this highly selective program will live in Beijing for a year of study and cultural immersion, attending lectures, traveling, and developing a better understanding of China. Applications opened in Spring 2015, with the first class of students in residence by the summer of 2016. Learn more at http://www.schwarzmanscholars.org.
