Akorn Launches Doxercalciferol Injection


LAKE FOREST, Ill., Sept. 21, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Akorn, Inc. (Nasdaq:AKRX), a leading specialty pharmaceutical company, today announced that it has launched Doxercalciferol Injection Solution, 4 mcg/2 mL in 2mL single-use vials. The launch follows an approval of an abbreviated new drug application for the product from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on May 7, 2015. Akorn's product is therapeutically equivalent to Hectorol® injection, marketed by Genzyme Corporation.

About Doxercalciferol Injection

Akorn's Doxercalciferol Injection is indicated for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. According to IMS Health, branded and generic sales of Doxercalciferol Injection, 4 mcg/2 mL in 2mL single-use vials, were approximately $90 million for the twelve months ended July 31, 2015.
