Laurelhurst Chiropractic Adds Acupuncture, Herbal Services

PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 01, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Laurelhurst Chiropractic will soon be adding acupuncture to its list of available services designed to help Portland-area residents experience less pain and better overall health. Jen Bookout, a board certified and licensed acupuncturist and herbalist in Oregon and California, recently joined the team at the Burnside Street clinic that includes licensed chiropractors and husband-and-wife couple Dr. Phil McCary and Dr. Danielle McCary.

“Adding Jen’s services to what we already provide will benefit the whole community,” said Dr. Danielle McCary, chiropractor and co-founder of Laurelhurst Chiropractic. “Patients will appreciate the full spectrum of treatment options here, from ancient healing techniques to modern chiropractic methods.”

Acupuncturist Jen Bookout graduated summa cum laude from Emperor’s College in Santa Monica, and received advanced training under the direction of Dr. Robert Chu at Providence Hospital’s Disney Family Center. She currently teaches the biomedicine module for the National Acupuncture License Exam.

The Indiana native developed her interest in acupuncture and herbal medicine while seeking healing options that go beyond simply taking pills.

“I came to appreciate the simplicity yet completeness of this style of medicine,” Bookout said. “Medicine was and is all about balance, and trying to achieve harmony in mind, body and spirit.”

Over the years, she has found that acupuncture and herbal medicine can have a role in treating a wide variety of physical and mental conditions, everything from reducing general pain and anxiety to improving fertility and helping people sleep better. Acupuncture treatments have been known to cut down on indigestion, depression and stress, and help women’s health issues.

Her treatments include acupuncture and cupping; Tui Na and Gua Sha, forms of manipulative therapy; Reiki, a healing technique; and Aroma Acupoint Therapy, which boosts energy with essential oils. She’s also happy to discuss nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes to help people achieve optimal health.

Bookout’s expertise nicely complements the chiropractic care and massage services already offered at Laurelhurst Chiropractic.

“We’re eager to offer our skills to help anyone, whether you’ve been injured in an auto accident, are having a challenging pregnancy or you need assistance in putting together a fitness program for your age and physical condition,” said Dr. Danielle McCary. “Sometimes when working with patients, we discover how old injuries, like a sprained ankle or twisted knee from years before, are still causing pain in different parts of the body.”

People interested in learning more about chiropractic methods and acupuncture are always welcome to come by to talk to the staff and establish an individualized plan.

“We believe that everyone deserves a fully-functioning and pain-free life,” said Dr. Phil McCary. “We provide care as long as your body needs it, but our overall goal is to help everyone remain healthy.”
