Bridj becomes first startup to mandate $15 minimum wage.

In solidarity with the #FightFor15 movement, Bridj leads the national conversation by being the first to publicly support a sustainable wage for the shared economy.

BOSTON, Mass., Nov. 11, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Bridj, which creates smart cities through better transit, announced via their CEO's blog that they will be the first major startup in the United States to embrace a $15 minimum wage for all workers on the platform, in solidarity with the #Fightfor15 movement.

On the importance of today's announcement, Bridj CEO Matthew George said, "With the advent of the 'on demand' economy, multi-billion dollar startups have been built on the blood, sweat, and tears of front line workers who are being paid pennies for their work. We're excited to begin to turn that trend around by fighting for fair wages for fair work."

According to a PricewaterhouseCoopers survey, some 7% of U.S. adults indicate that they are working on sharing economy platforms, but analysts like Andrew Keen in the Wall Street Journal have compared the often exploitative wage practices of many on demand startups to Wal-Mart's growth strategy which was predicated on "precariously employed, low-paid workers".

With today's announcement, Bridj is working to change the dynamic by stepping up to lead American startups to:

  • Deploy a $15 minimum wage for all operating partners working for Bridj, with full benefits.
  • Challenge venture capitalists, technology executives, and others in the startup community to either publicly support or oppose the $15 minimum wage for high growth multi-billion dollar startups.
