1st Choice Health & Wellness Now Offering Acupuncture

NEW ALBANY, Ind., Nov. 15, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 1st Choice Health & Wellness announced that the practice is now offering acupuncture treatments for patients. Dr. Amanda Nunier, a chiropractor with the practice, recently received her certification. Acupuncture is a contemporary pain management and wellness care technique based on Ancient Chinese medicine. Acupuncture may be beneficial for treating a number of different health conditions, including back and neck pain, migraines, headaches and sciatica pain, says Dr. Amanda Nunier. The chiropractor recommends acupuncture treatments as a natural complement to chiropractic care for enhanced pain relief.

New Albany, Indiana, chiropractor Dr. Amanda Nunier is now offering acupuncture treatments at 1st Choice Health & Wellness. Dr. Nunier recently completed her acupuncture training and certification.

“I am excited to be able to provide acupuncture as an additional treatment option here at 1st Choice,” says Dr. Nunier. “I am deeply committed to supporting my patients’ health from the inside out by activating their bodies’ ability to heal. With acupuncture, I am able to bring an enhanced level of care to my patients and provide a new, non-invasive treatment option that naturally complements chiropractic care.”

Acupuncture uses long, thin needles to stimulate the central nervous system. Dr. Nunier follows evidenced-base care guidelines to stimulate specific acupuncture points along the body that are linked to a patient’s pain symptoms or injury. Stimulating these points stimulates the central nervous system to release specific chemicals, such as endorphins, that enhance pain relief, says Dr. Nunier.

“While acupuncture may be based on the Ancient Chinese system of traditional medicine, contemporary scientific research shows that acupuncture offers a number of clear health benefits for the body,” said Dr. Nunier. “Traditionally, the Ancient Chinese believed that imbalances in the body’s energy levels (known as the ‘qi’) were responsible for pain and illness. Today, we understand that Chinese concept of the ‘qi’ is very similar to our understanding of the central nervous system.”

Dr. Nunier says she first became interested in acupuncture as a means for providing enhanced pain relief for her patients.

“Many of the patients I work with have been struggling with chronic back pain, neck pain or migraines for years,” said Dr. Nunier. “Thanks to acupuncture, I am able to offer a treatment option that enhances the benefits of chiropractic adjustments. Depending on a patient’s injury rehabilitation and pain management needs, acupuncture may also complement other treatments that they are receiving, such as spinal decompression therapy, corrective exercises and cold laser treatment.”

In addition to offering acupuncture treatments, Dr. Nunier is trained to perform a wide variety of chiropractic adjusting techniques. She is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, the Indiana State Chiropractic Association and is also a Diplomat of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
