Two facilities with Mondo surfaces honored by ASBA for excellence in sports facility construction

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Dec. 11, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Two facilities with tracks made by Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets, have been honored for excellence in sports construction by the American Sports Builders Association.

Carl Maddox Field House at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, was named Outstanding Indoor Track Facility of the Year, and Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, was given the Silver Award in the Track Division.

Carl Maddox Field House has a Mondotrack surface. Designed for superior athletic performance Mondotrack builds on the success of the company’s renowned Super X Performance and provides optimal traction and a greater contact area than other tracks. It converts the maximum amount of force generated by athletes’ foot strikes to energy for maximum energy return and optimal athletic performance.

Kezar Stadium features Mondo’s Super X 720 surface which combines the backing of Mondotrack and the wear layer of the company’s Super X Performance track vulcanized together to form one continuous, seamless piece of material that delivers exceptional traction, durability, drainage and safety. The backing provides exceptional shock absorbency and energy return, which further helps the performance layer increase athletes’ comfort and enables them to achieve faster times than when running on other surfaces.

Mondo recently announced it has been named the official supplier for athletic tracks and equipment for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The company has been an official supplier of athletic tracks for the past 10 Olympic Games and the competition surface since the 1992 Barcelona Games.

ASBA, of which Mondo is a member, is the national organization for builders, designers and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities. Annual awards are presented to facilities built by ASBA members that best exemplify construction excellence. A panel of ASBA members anonymously judged entries. Projects were scored individually based on considerations such as layout and design, site work, drainage, base construction, surface, amenities, innovation and overall impression. Winning entries’ cumulative scores met or exceeded the standard.
