In honor of Martin Luther King weekend, SYF, in partnership with NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People - http://www.naacp.org) - and the Domus School Program (http://www.domuskids.org) is sponsoring a screening of the much acclaimed "FROM THE ROUGH."
The BET Award-winning film, FROM THE ROUGH, is based on the inspiring true story of Coach Catana Starks and her seemingly insurmountable journey to inspire a team of young athletes profoundly enough for them to believe in themselves and become champions – in their own lives. Catana Starks made history as the first African-American woman to coach an all-men's collegiate team, overcoming many obstacles and silencing many naysayers to bring them to an all-time record championship season.
"SYF is extremely excited to be able to tie together Domus School Program with NAACP to promote the screening of FROM THE ROUGH as we believe it will help with understandings between all cultures and races," said Spadaccini.
The screening will take place on Friday, January 15th at 10:30 AM at Trailblazers Academy, 88 Lockwood Ave., Stamford, CT.
Trailblazers Academy, a public school of choice for more than 170 students in grades six, seven, and eight, and a member of the Domus School Program, opened in Stamford in 1999. Many students need a different learning environment to reach their full potential. A rigorous academic focus, paired with a comprehensive human development model and small classes, allows students to excel academically and build critical social and emotional skills needed for success.

About Stamford Youth Foundation (SYF):
SYF is a 501(c) 3, not for profit organization that operates programs to serve the youth of Stamford, CT, their parents and the community at large. All SYF officers, coaches and directors are volunteers.
SYF receives donations and grants from organizations and individuals to help subsidize its programs. These donations primarily fund the financial scholarships for participants that could not otherwise afford the programs. Making our programs available to all of the town's youths is core to SYF's mission. SYF also relies upon Stamford's public facilities such as parks, ball fields and schools to offer our programs. These facilities are made available to SYF and its participants at no cost (except for custodians at some locations) by the City of Stamford.
