Trinity Ventures Promotes Matthew Goldstein to Principal

Goldstein to Expand Firm's Enterprise Coverage in Conjunction With Trinity's Latest $400m Fund

MENLO PARK, CA--(Marketwired - March 02, 2016) -  Trinity Ventures, an early-stage, technology-focused investment firm, today announced that Matthew Goldstein, who joined the firm as an associate in July 2013, has been promoted to Principal. Goldstein's appointment comes on the heels of Trinity's announcements of a new $400m fund and the addition of General Partner, Schwark Satyavolu.

Since joining the firm, Goldstein has worked closely with Trinity partners to source, conduct due diligence, execute and manage investments in categories ranging from cybersecurity and edtech to fintech and financial services. Currently, he assists the founders and executive teams of MasteryConnect, Dealstruck, Docker, Workpop, as well as unannounced portfolio companies. As a principal, Goldstein will continue to invest in SaaS, cybersecurity, and financial services, and he will take on new responsibilities related to the firm's portfolio.

"Beyond working with world-class entrepreneurs, I've been focused on building a highly 'un-correlated' portfolio -- not only between our investments, but with many of the broader trends," said Goldstein. "I believe that in doing so, we can help create multiple category leaders and enduring companies that transcend sectors and profoundly influence the ways people live and work."

"Matt is a core member of the team and an absolute workhorse," said Trinity General Partner, Ajay Chopra. "The entire partnership depends on him as both an incredibly creative and thoughtful investment team member, as well as a source of unique ideas, insights, and investment opportunities. His appointment is a reflection of our commitment to develop internal talent and offer opportunities for driven associates to shine."

Trinity Ventures has a long and unique history of cultivating talent within its ranks. For example, Dan Scholnick, who led Trinity's investments in Docker and New Relic, originally joined the firm as an associate in 2007 while Karan Mehandru joined as a principal in 2010, adding a new focus on sales and marketing SaaS.

Prior to Trinity, Goldstein was an early employee at a venture-backed automotive startup. He was the sole software engineer at the company, responsible for all enterprise software and systems, before leaving in 2011 to pursue an MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
