SAGINAW, Mich., April 19, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Duro-Last, Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of the first annual category-specific Duro-Last Project Awards. The categories and winners were revealed at Duro-Last's National Sales Seminar held in Palm Desert, California, February 1 and 2, 2016.
The Project Awards were created to honor Duro-Last contractors who complete outstanding projects in various categories.
"We always say that Duro-Last contractors are the best, and we wanted to do something to recognize the best projects," said Duro-Last Chairman of the Board, Jack Burt. "The Project Award winners are excellent examples of how our contractors go above and beyond to find roofing solutions for their customers."

Project of the Year: Gage Roofing & Constructors of S. Houston, Texas
•    Project: Alvin Junior High School, Alvin, Texas
When the Alvin Junior High School of Alvin, Texas needed a new roof, they knew they needed a roofing contractor that could provide solutions for the unique roof. Having Duro-Last as a spec for more than 20 years, choosing Duro-Last and Gage Roofing, an Elite Contractor, was an easy choice. This large roof had several sections, with varying changes in plane and concrete walls – requiring many different types of products and installation techniques.
In the end, over 150,000 square feet of Duro-Last membrane was used, as well as 110,000 square feet of two-inch ISO insulation, along with 6,600 square feet of standing seam roof and wall panels. Although the Alvin Public Schools were familiar with Duro-Last, the results of this project exceeded expectations.
"The school was impressed," said Robin Gage, Vice President of Gage Roofing & Constructors. "We were able to furnish them with all of the products they needed to make that system watertight."

Best Use of Custom Prefabrication: Harrison Roofing Co., Inc. of San Angelo, Texas
•    Project: City of San Angelo Foster Communications Coliseum, San Angelo, Texas
As one of the most iconic buildings in San Angelo, Texas, it's important for the City of San Angelo Foster Communications Coliseum to have a roof that is not only watertight, but also looks good. Harrison Roofing Co., Inc. realized that a Duro-Last custom prefabricated roofing system was the solution for this unique domed roof. This system had only about 4,500 linear feet of field seams – saving about 9,600 linear feet of field seaming when compared to a typical roll good single ply roofing system.
"This is the first time in years, this building hasn't leaked," said Jeremy Harrison, Vice President of Harrison Roofing.

Edge-to-Edge & Deck-to-Sky™ Winner: Nasi Roofing, LLC of Minocqua, Wisconsin
•    Project: Rapid River Public Schools, Rapid River, Michigan
The campus of Rapid River Public Schools connects multiple buildings with many different shaped and sloped roofs, which required several roofing products and installation techniques. Having installed Duro-Last for more than 30 years, Nasi Roofing, LLC was confident in bidding Duro-Last. The project utilized an array of Duro-Last products – including four different types of Duro-Guard® insulation, Duro-Tuff® and Duro-Last membranes, water-based and solvent-based adhesives along with custom prefabricated accessories – giving the school its first watertight roof in years.

Metal Roofing Winner: CustomCraft Roofing of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin
•    Project: Detached Garage, Cedar Grove, Wisconsin
Designed to look like the Mayberry Courthouse from the Andy Griffith Show, this private residence garage utilized EM Lokseam®, a standing seam roofing panel from EXCEPTIONAL® Metals. CustomCraft Roofing worked with both Duro-Last and EXCEPTIONAL Metals to design a watertight and secure roof that could still replicate the iconic look. EXCEPTIONAL Metals' easy-to-install accessories and standing seam roofing allowed CustomCraft to complete the project on time and within budget – while also having some fun creating a memorable garage.

Sustainability Winner: Texas Roof Systems of Laredo, Texas
•    Project: Hobby Lobby
After a strong storm destroyed a roof on a Hobby Lobby, quick action was needed to fix the damage and recycling it made sense. With little extra work, Owner of Texas Roof Systems Javier Bejarano and his crew were able to remove the damaged roof and send it back to Duro-Last to be recycled by Duro-Last and sister company Oscoda Plastics,® Inc. In the end 17,500 pounds of roofing material from this project was recycled into Protect-All® flooring products – keeping it out of a landfill.

Specialty Roofing Winner: Overhead, Inc. of Toledo, Ohio
•    Project: Betco Incorporated, Bowling Green, Ohio
As the largest project ever taken on by Overhead Inc., the Betco Incorporated factory building in Bowling Green, Ohio consisted of more than 300,000 square feet of Duro-Last® EV being installed on an existing building in less than seven weeks. Because the client wanted the business up and running as soon as possible, this project required coordination of many different tradespeople on a daily basis – which also resulted in an unpredictable number and size of penetrations.
Both the General Contractor and Plant Engineer on the project were happy with the end result, with the General Contractor saying, "Half the time I didn't even know Overhead was up on that roof. That's exactly how I wish all of my projects went."
