Update on SSH patent licensing program
SSH communicated on 13 May, 2015 about filing a patent litigation against Sony in Germany expecting a ruling in about one year. This is to give some further information on the schedule of the litigation efforts.
The decision in the Germany patent litigation initiated by SSH is expected to be available in fall 2016.
Sony has, as a normal procedure in these cases, also filed a nullity suit in Germany challenging the validity of the SSH patent EP 2254311 in suit. Decision in this case is expected to be available during 2017.
In addition to its counteraction in Germany, Sony has filed cases challenging the validity of SSH patents in the UK and in the US.
In the UK, Sony filed an invalidity suit on the UK patent on EP 2254311, and in response to that, SSH filed a patent infringement claim against Sony also in the UK. The decision in these UK cases is expected to be available in fall 2016.
In the US, Sony has initiated so called Inter Parties Review regarding validity of SSH patent US 8,544,079. The decision is expected to be available in about one year.
SSH believes in the strength of its cases in all the litigations described above while acknowledging certain uncertainty related to litigations.
SSH continues to negotiate with multiple parties about licensing its patents to players in the smartphone and laptop industry under confidentiality agreements.
