2019 European Indoor Athletics Championships to take place on Mondo hydraulic banked track

GLASGOW, United Kingdom, May 09, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In March 2019, the fastest men and women in Europe will travel to Glasgow to compete in the European Indoor Athletics Championships. The track they’ll run on was specifically engineered for indoor venues and designed to help them achieve their best times: a Mondo hydraulic banked track with a Mondotrack surface.

Manufactured by Mondo, the global leader in the sports flooring market, the hydraulic banked track system is one of only a few such tracks in the world, and it boasts tremendous flexibility. Ideal for high-speed running events, it allows athletes to safely maintain their speed around the tracks’ banked curves for optimal race times. Because it can be set at any position from flat to fully raised, the track can be used by athletes with any skill level—from novice to elite—for training and high-speed competition.

It is easy to use as well, thanks to a programmable logic control system that can raise or lower the curved section to the required height in a matter of minutes, at the push of a button. When the curved sections are lowered, the track is flush with the surrounding surfaces. Mondo makes the world’s only hydraulic banked 200-meter indoor competition track system.

Glasgow was recently chosen as the event’s host city by European Athletics, the continent’s governing body for track and field. The venue where the championships will take place is Emirates Arena, which installed the state-of-the-art Mondo track in 2012.

Emirates Arena has been the site of several other high-profile meets recently. It hosted the prestigious Indoor Grand Prix in February, and from 2013 through 2015, it was home to the British Athletics International Match. The 2019 meet will be one of the largest sporting events ever held in Glasgow. More than 600 athletes from the 50 European Athletics member federation countries are expected to participate.

About Mondotrack

The competition track of the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games, Mondotrack builds on the success of the company’s renowned Mondo’s Super X Performance track. Designed for superior athletic performance, Mondotrack provides optimal traction and a greater contact area than other tracks. It converts the maximum amount of force generated by athletes’ foot strikes to energy for maximum energy return, which helps athletes achieve faster times compared to running on other surfaces.
