Major Supplemental Language Enrichment Program Now Available to Colorado’s Leading Immersion School Network

Global Village Academies makes language learning programs from renowned ed-tech provider Rosetta Stone available to all students and parents

Arlington, VA, June 28, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Colorado’s Global Village Academies (GVA) are known for their innovative K-8 charter schools, where students learn core content and a second language through English and world language immersion. In a move to equip its students with new tools for mastering their chosen language, GVA has entered into a relationship with one of the most trusted and recognized providers of digital language learning programs—Rosetta Stone (NYSE: RST).

All GVA students now have round-the-clock access to Rosetta Stone in their target language of Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, French, or German. This additional resource for use both in the classroom and at home, allows students to continue to build their oral proficiency and pronunciation, along with fun games and activities focused on reinforcing the core skills learned in the classroom. The program will also support more than 1,000 English Language Learners (ELLs) at GVA who have access to the English program, in addition to the child’s second language.

“Rosetta Stone is a powerful supplemental tool for the classroom and home that will enrich our language immersion program for students,” said Kirk Loadman-Copeland, President of Global Village Charter Collaborative. “What an added benefit it is for our students who are hungry for language learning to have this resource available to help continue to hone the skills they’re learning in the classroom while they’re at home, or on the go with their mobile devices. It’s a natural enhancement for our program and illustrates our commitment to language acquisition for all of our students.”

By bringing Rosetta Stone into the classroom, immersion teachers now have a daily ability to measure language proficiency gains as opposed to the previous annual testing measurement at the end of each school year. This will help educators assess each student’s progress on a regular basis and enable them to create a more personalized learning path based on areas where they’re excelling and areas where they need more assistance and focus. Parents also have a new opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of what their children are learning through Rosetta Stone as GVA is making licenses to the program available to all parents through a special offer.

“The anywhere-anytime access to Rosetta Stone provides a great new dimension to our language immersion program," said Terry Gogerty, Chief Development Officer, Global Village Academies. "We're especially excited about the opportunity this partnership will offer the parents of our students. Global Village parents are always seeking new ways to help support their children's learning and this provides an excellent opportunity for them to actively participate and encourage additional language learning."

For more than 24 years, Rosetta Stone has been helping millions of people around the world become proficient in a new language. Its technology-based approach recreates the immersion method that GVA uses in the classroom, allowing students to learn a new language effectively and naturally. Immediate feedback through Rosetta Stone’s proprietary speech recognition software further helps learners build confidence in using their new language correctly and the program’s cloud-based system automatically syncs their progress making it easy for teachers to check in and create a personalized learning plan for each student. There’s also a parent portal that enables parents to check in with their child’s schoolwork, allowing them to be more involved than ever in their child’s learning experience.

“We’re so excited to have Global Village Academies join us in our mission to help change people’s lives through language education,” said Judy Verses, President, Global Enterprise & Education, Rosetta Stone. “This is a group that’s not only arming its students with the tools they need to excel and give them real life advantages, but also promotes college and workforce readiness in a global economy—and that’s something we really care about. We know results matter and we’re proud to be helping to build a world where everyone can speak, read, and write with confidence.”

GVA opened its first campus in 2007 with 230 students and has since expanded to have more than 3,500 students across its five K-8 campuses in Aurora, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Northglenn and Parker. GVA offers three languages at each school, in addition to English, and at least 50 percent of all instruction is taught in the student’s selected language. The schools have placed an emphasis on integrating technology into the classroom, and provide all middle school students access to a laptop for use in the classroom and at home.

GVA is truly a global village. The schools’ teachers come from all corners of the world, each bringing their unique culture and language into the classroom. Students are challenged to become world-class thinkers, capable of engaging ideas using multiple languages and cross-cultural perspectives.
