ARLINGTON, Va., July 7, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Defense Industrial Association's (NDIA) Space Division is pleased to announce it will present the Honorable Peter B. Teets Award on the evening of Monday, August 1 at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, VA to Lt. Gen. John W. "Jay" Raymond, Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Headquarters United States Air Force and Mr. Martin C. Faga, retired President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mitre Corporation.
The award is the Space Division's highest honor and recognizes public and private sector leadership or achievement that results in significant contributions to the development, introduction, operational contribution or support of space systems. Each year the division recognizes an individual from government and an individual from industry.
Lt. Gen. John W. "Jay" Raymond, Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Headquarters United States Air Force has been selected as the government honoree. Lt. Gen. Raymond distinguished himself as a leader in space and missile operations for over 30 years and has an extensive record of success, innovation, and contributions to national security space, particularly in the integration of space with other domains of warfare in the joint environment. In his current role, he is responsible to the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff for formulating policy supporting air, space, cyber, irregular warfare, counter-proliferation, homeland security, and weather operations. As the Air Force operations deputy to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the general determines operational requirements, capabilities and training necessary to support national security objectives and military strategy.
Mr. Martin C. Faga, retired President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mitre Corporation, has ben selected as the industry honoree. Mr. Faga has over 40 years of distinguished and devoted service as a leader in the National Security Space community. He was the 10th Director of the National Reconnaissance Office where he revolutionized NRO support to the military, downgraded the classification of NRO products, and appointed a Deputy Director for Military Support. He also served from 1989 to 1993 as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space while also director of the NRO. He joined the Mitre Corporation in 1993, eventually retiring as the President and Chief Executive Officer in 2006. He remains active on numerous government and industry panels and boards continuing to shape the future of National Security Space.
Selected by a six-person award committee, the Teets Award recipients met criteria that include displaying notable influence, and in their distinguished service made significant contributions that strengthened our national security by direct application of space capabilities or the enhancement of our industrial space technology base. This year's winners extend a remarkable lineage of excellence in space achievement. Recent past winners include Gen. John Hyten and Ms. Kay Sears (2014), Ms. Betty Sapp and Mr. Jeff Harris (2013), and Lt. Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski and Dr. Wanda Austin (2012)
