Smart Card Alliance Mobile Wallet Workshop Brings Structure to the Wild West of the Mobile Payments Industry

One-day workshop to be held September 15


PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., Aug. 04, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The mobile wallet market today is the Wild West of the payments industry—it is largely undefined, there are no commonly-used security standards, and it is an open territory for innovation. For payments stakeholders looking to rein-in mobile wallets and understand the mobile wallet landscape, security considerations, and the business impact of mobile payments technology, the Smart Card Alliance will host a full-day mobile wallet workshop this September as part of its training and education initiatives through the Alliance’s National Center for Advanced Payments and Identity Security, in Crystal City, Virginia.

The one-day workshop, “Mobile Wallets – the Wild West of Payments,” will be held on September 15, 2016, and will be hosted in-person at the training center and streamed live for remote attendees. For those unable to attend, the workshop will also be recorded and made available online after the event.

  • Pros and cons of the NFC and HCE technologies behind different wallet solutions
  • Potential business impacts of tap, in-app and mobile browser wallets
  • A comparison of the mobile device-centric, bank-centric and merchant-centric wallet models on consumer adoption
  • A close look at Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Android Pay – three main players in the U.S. market
  • A deep dive into merchant- and bank-centric wallets including ChasePay, Walmart Pay, and wallets from Amazon and U.S. Bank
  • Security considerations and fraud risks on the myriad of wallet solutions
  • An expert panel discussion on the winners and losers of the mobile Wild West

Speakers will include Deborah Baxley, Paygility Advisors; Guy Berg, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis; Tony Sabetti, CPI Card Group; Julien Traisnel, Oberthur Technologies; and Randy Vanderhoof, Smart Card Alliance with payments consultant Oliver Manahan as a moderator.
